Not Being A Jerk

Sometimes there are people in our lives that we really love, but they have a way of becoming toxic to us and our journey. They may be people that we have shared the journey with, and been a great blessing to us, and us to them. For some reason though, they move in a different dierction, down a different path. In the end you must avoid them, like a deadly disease or it eats into your happiness and ability to live life on a joyful journey. I have found that politics is one of the biggest causes of this.
There are many reasons I have become very apolitical, but the greatest is friendship. There are people in my life who are very left wing, and very opinionated about it. There are people in my life who are very right wing, and very opinionated about it. I love them all and love spending time with them. Sadly, they could not be in the same room together or there would be a major tear in the time space continuum that would cause an eruption on the scale of Mount Pinatubo.
In general, as long as I stay neutral, all is well. But sometimes, there is nothing one can do. Unless you agree, you are a heretic and anathema. It is very sad.
Religion has a way of taking that to a whole new level.  Take one cup of politics add religion and stand back! Run! Run away!
Even people in the same religion find such deep division they tend to kill one another and start new sects of their religion. So very sad. But what ever religion you hold to or don’t, or whatever party, can you please just do all of us in the middle a favor and be kind.  The Golden Rule – “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them”. Or, in short, dont be a jerk. (Steve Martin is the exception).
